BEST IN SHOW
The Afghan Hound Club of ACT - November 9th 2008
Judge Mrs. Patricia Batty - Pierhelo Afghans Australia

It was a special honour to receive this win from one of Australia's Premier Afghan Breeders, and it has made Fonze Australia's top specialty winning afghan hound of all time. Aust. Ch. Khandhu laser Litefoot (the dog who gave his name to Laser Lites Hair Care Products), was retired as Australia's top specialty winning afghan hound of all time. Since then 3 other afghan hounds have eclipsed that record:
Aust. Ch. Raushan Copa Cabana - handled by Kerry Pope;
Aust. Gr. Ch. Kjavu Air Jordan, handled by Kerry Pope or Colin Hamilton;
and now "The Fonze"
All three of these record-breaking afghan hounds are descendents of Laser Litefoot.....an extraordinary legacy - and one we are extremely proud of.

Critique from Stephen Wheeler:
A truly classic, beautiful male that caught my eye immediately. Perfectly presented and shown. Every inch a male, yet showing refinement and elegance. Wonderful head and expression, beautiful length to foreface and clean back skull. Great length of neck flowing into good shoulders. Good topline, hipbones, croup and tail wet. Wonderful front angles, excellent rear angulation, hocks well let down, perfect boning for size and very good feet. Shown in great condition with a well developed body. He moved with perfect soundness from any direction. Covered the ground with ease and had that perfect lift to his gait without being extreme. He was a pleasure to judge and clearly the dog they all needed to beat, he never let down and the more I moved him the better he went. What would I change on him, not much, for personal preference, I would like to see him a little shorter in back, other than that, he is quite outstanding.

Critique from Robert Paust:
Very nice balanced dog. Could be maybe a little finer in his backskull. Nicely angulated front and rear. Shown very well. Good coat & nice tail and tailset.

PHOTOGRAPHS AND CRITIQUES FROM SPECIALTIES

Critique of Fonze from Anita Ledger-Doe
What a hound ! I could have watched him move all day. He was out there as the King of his Breed - He knew it - I knew it. A gold dog of rare quality. He took my breath away. Excellent long lean head, good length of neck, correctly saddled, well balanced and all the right angles in all the right places. His photos do not do him justice "

                Critique from Mark Cocozza:
"A houndy shaded mask gold of excellent proportions and balance. He has the most exotic head and expression with perfect balance of strength to refinement. This dog grew on me as the class went on and improved every time he was asked to move. Seemed to pick up a gear every time, but again never raced, he also had a nice easy stride with nothing extreme. Good topline, croup and tail.
Critique from Joseph Smith:
"Oh my goodness"! was all I could think when this class came into the ring. It was truly Afghan Hound heaven. This first place dog arrived with incredible stature, presence, expression and movement. From the tip of his nose to the tip of his perfectly ringed tail, he embodied the essence of "Afghan Hound" and went on to be my Challenge Dog as well as Best In Show. I see that this dog is also an American champion. I think he needs to be kidnapped and brought back to the States!

Critique from Willem Buitenkamp
"3 years, great dog with lots of style, all body parts in nice harmony, nice head with oriental expression, strong jaws, lips could be somewhat tighter, strong long neck, excellent topline, strong short loins and a broad, correct croup, nice brisket, strong bone & nice feet, springy and balanced gait with proud carried head."

Critique from Wayne Douglas:
Black masked Gold, Excellent outline on the day which he held on the move with the correct proud head-carriage. Strong and elegant with a balanced forequarter and hindquarter, the latter showing great power. Fabulous picture to watch move around the ring.

FONZE'S TRIP TO AMERICA IN 2003

Fonze was exhibited in America in October 2003, and gained his American Championship in just 3 weekends. He was Best Of Winners at the Nutmeg specialty judged by Bobby Keller the day after the National, and again Best Of Winners at the Northern Afghan specialty judged by Hank Nave. He was placed Best In Group - 4th - at his first All Breeds outing in America at the Del Valle K.C. under Patricia Miller.
Some photographs from his USA trip below

Fonze came out of Quarantine, and back on the show scene in early 2004. At his first show weekend out of Quarantine in January 2004, Fonze took 2 All Breeds Best In Shows, and 1 Runner Up Best In show. A few weeks later, he was Best In Show at the Victorian Specialty under Willem Buitenkamp from Belbium, and was again Best In Show at the Queensland Specialty in June 2004 under Joseph Smith USA.
